Congrats to the Let-Us-Farm team at DAIS!

This year, 450 teams (over 1000 students) competed in the international NESA Virtual Science and Engineering Fair. Out of those 450 teams, 50 teams were selected to participate in Round 2, with only 5 teams participating in the final round. ISS School Dostyk American International School (DAIS) in Kazakhstan was able to submit 3 projects into this competition — overall, DAIS students placed 11th (Ray -Gravity Light), 7th (Kate, Ryan, Ava – Effects of Carbon Dioxide on Daphnia) and 2nd (Let-Us Farm)! This is the second consecutive year that DAIS students have placed in the top 5 category.

We’re excited to spotlight the Let-Us Farm — Hydroponics Engineering team. Rohit, Bryan, and Radek won 2nd overall by engineering a sustainable hydroponics farm for the classroom; for the final Champion’s round, they wrote a theoretical experiment about remediating ponds using Chinampas.

Additionally, Let-Us Farm is officially the top engineering team for the entire competition. The team will be receiving a certificate from the US Department of State, Office of Overseas Schools. We offer a huge congratulations to these inspiring young thinkers on such an accomplishment!

Congratulations and kudos also go to Jennifer LeBlanc (DAIS Middle School Science and Math Teacher) for mentoring and guiding the team. You can read Rohit, Radek and Bryan’s Engineering Project Report that placed them into the Champions round here, and their final Champion’s Round essay here.

Thank you also to Seamus Marriott (DAIS Director) for help creating this spotlight!

Do you have a school or student initiative to celebrate? We love seeing them and learning more on #ISSedu.
