High Tech Academy in Kazakhstan joins SISU Schools®

ISS-Lumo announces fifth international school to join the new SISU Schools Network

PRINCETON NJ, USA (December 9, 2021)High Tech Academy (HTA) in Almaty Kazakhstan will become part of the SISU Schools® network in January 2022. HTA will be the fifth school scheduled to join the fast-growing K-12 SISU Schools community, that is led through the collaboration of education leaders International Schools Services (ISS) and Lumo Education. SISU schools are part of an innovative, global franchise-model designed to create world-class K-12 international schools. This HTA project is the world’s first fully functioning school to join the network.

Ms. Tatiana Magambetova, current Director of High Tech Academy, is excited about this partnership.  Ms. Magambetova commented, “I am thrilled to have SISU’s expertise in equipping our teachers with the best of the Finnish-American academic curriculum and to become part of a network of like-minded schools across the world.”

High Tech Academy (HTA) is a private school that provides an innovative problem and project-based academic program designed to prepare students to recognize and respond to the challenges and uncertainties of a complex world. Their mission is to nurture the next generations of lifelong learners to work together in solving complex challenges. HTA’s vision to enhance student potential to change the world is incredibly well aligned to the SISU Schools approach to education.

High Tech Academy was built with a fusion of the best of the Finnish approach to education and a unique problem and project based methodology to teaching and learning developed in the US. HTA’s implementation of the Finnish model has inspired the design of the new school spaces and centers the school on student well-being. The chair of the Board at HTA is Doris Korda, founder of the Korda Institute for Teaching in the U.S. Korda’ methodology has been the foundation of the educational and instructional framework of HTA, and Doris Korda continues to work with HTA’s leadership team to help design the school while training and coaching its teachers. HTA’s model, rooted in the Finnish approach to whole child education and Korda Institute’s methodology, makes it a natural partner for SISU Schools.

Aki Halko, CEO of Lumo Education, reflected on the most recent project, “We are extremely happy to welcome a well-established existing school with a great reputation to our SISU Schools community. We look forward to supporting HTA in taking their Finnish-American approach to a new level in a K-12 context.”

ISS Vice President for School Startups, Management and Operations, Dr. Tom Hawkins, shares the enthusiasm for the collaboration with High Tech Academy. ”We as a SISU team are excited that HTA will be joining our network.  Their innovative, child-centered approach to education and problem solving fits wonderfully with our vision for great international schools.  Look for more great innovation and leadership from High Tech Academy – A SISU School”.
