What drew you to pursue the world of education? And what drew you into international education specifically?
I was raised as a Third Culture Kid (TCK), moving frequently and experiencing life in cultures far from my own. Born in Spokane, WA, I grew up in Alaska, Nevada, Salt Lake City, and Santiago, Chile, where I graduated from Nido de Aguilas International School. My international upbringing and extensive international leadership experience has deeply influenced my commitment to fostering inclusive, global-minded school communities.
I am deeply committed to nurturing a supportive, inclusive environment where each child feels inspired to explore their unique potential. I believe in the power of education to help students develop curiosity, resilience, and a love for lifelong learning, all within a caring community.
Congratulations on your upcoming role at the British International School of Stockholm (BISS)! What are you excited about in this new role?
My goal is to take BISS to the next level, to drive and build upon the school’s outstanding success and continuous development. I want to focus on holistic development by creating a well-rounded education, encompassing academics, arts, sports, and life skills, fostering the school’s values: “Curiosity. Resilience. Respect.”
Together as a community we will continue to prepare students to be global citizens while strengthening their ties to the local community. My mission is to nurture a community where each student feels valued, encouraged, and excited about their educational journey. My vision is to work together with the BISS community — students, staff, and parents alike — to foster a true sense of belonging and inclusivity. I value open communication and welcome conversations, whether greeting families at the entrance, meeting with individual or groups of the community or saying goodbye as students leave. Building strong relationships and creating a culture of respect and collaboration will be central to my role. Supporting our talented staff is also one of my priorities. I am committed to providing ongoing professional development, classroom visits, and meaningful support to enrich their work. Our team’s dedication and expertise are the foundation of our success, and I am here to help them thrive.
During my initial months as Director, I’ll focus on observing, listening, and understanding the BISS community. I aim to foster trust and learn about the school’s culture so that together, we can build on its achievements and pave the way for even greater success. Together, we will set and achieve ambitious goals, creating a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement.
Please tell us about your education philosophy and your leadership style.
I can summarize my educational philosophy and leadership style with these key statements:
- Visionary leader: I will inspire and motivate my team to achieve shared goals with a clear vision of our future.
- Collaborative Leadership: I believe in empowering teachers and staff, fostering a sense of ownership in school success.
- Student-Centered Leadership: Decisions will be rooted in mission, vision and values — what’s best for the students —academically, socially, and emotionally
- Supportive Environment: I will ensure that BISS is a place where everyone feels supported, valued, and motivated.
- Commitment to Excellence: High academic standards and commitment to cultivating creativity, critical thinking, character.
- Innovation & Adaptability: As the world of education evolves, my leadership will focus on innovative practices and adapt.

What was your experience with ISS Leadership Search like?
I had a wonderful experience working with ISS. Pauline and Beth were both incredibly professional and supportive throughout the entire process. Their honesty and integrity were refreshing, and they brought a wealth of experience and insight that made me feel confident every step of the way. ISS was always available to answer questions, provide guidance, and share valuable perspectives, ensuring I was well-informed and prepared.
What is an interesting fact or story about you that you would like to share?
My family — my husband and our three daughters, aged 18, 15, and 13 — are enthusiastic about our return to Stockholm. Our daughters, born in Seattle, Stockholm, and Washington D.C., have enjoyed growing up in vibrant, multicultural communities. As a family, we treasure our time together, often spent traveling, hiking, snorkeling, and exploring new cultures and landscapes. As an individual, I enjoy training for long distance running races at 4:30am (my only free time to myself :))
Many thanks to Corina for sharing these reflections! We look forward to seeing her leadership and passion for education continue to strengthen the learning and community at British International School of Stockholm. You can connect with Corina on LinkedIn.
