#MyFreedomDay at Ambatovy International School

On March 11, 2020, the #MyFreedomDay campaign calls students around the globe to a day of action against human trafficking. We’re proud to spotlight ISS School Ambatovy International School (AIS) students’ initiative, message, and global reach. They have not only done amazing awareness work around #MyFreedomDay in their community; they have also been selected by CNN to be interviewed and featured, amplifying their advocacy worldwide.

AIS middle and high school students have been creatively driving conversation around modern slavery, from displaying their thoughts in school hallways to encouraging the community to spread awareness on social media.

Over the past few weeks, they have also been preparing for their March 11 school-wide assembly and What Freedom Looks Like art showcase. Take a look at the inspiring video the AIS Student Service group has put together for the day, asking students a simple and important question: “What makes you feel the most free?”

The student’s work also has the incredible opportunity of being selected for a feature by CNN. “We are excited to be able to participate in bringing awareness to this issue on such a large scale,” writes AIS teacher Shamsi Tower, who has help guide the initiative and submitted the AIS plans to CNN. On March 11, AIS 10th grader Windy is being interviewed by CNN host Zain Asher and will appear in a segment alongside two other advocating students, one from Pakistan and one from Greece. This segment will air on Wednesday, March 11th at 12:30p EST during the CNN International live show.

Keep an eye out for the spotlight, and follow Ambatovy International School for more updates and great student work!

We’re incredibly inspired by these students’ advocacy and action. Is your school championing #MyFreedomDay too? We’d love to see how on #ISSedu.

Our special thanks again to AIS teacher Shamsi Tower for leading this initiative at AIS and sharing the story with us. She is a 7-8th grade ELA/SS teacher, K12 Online Learning Coordinator, and is in charge of the Student Service Club. This is her 10th year teaching, 5th year internationally (previously in the DR and Colombia), and 3rd year here at Ambatovy International School.
