Leadership Spotlight: Fabio Corvaglia

ISS Administrative Search was proud to lead the School Principal search for Westminster International School Tashkent (WIST) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Congratulations to Fabio Corvaglia for accepting the position, beginning August 2022! Fabio is currently the Head of School at the International School of Bologna, Italy.

Fabio holds a M.Ed. in International School Administration & Supervision from the College of New Jersey, USA; a B.Ed. in Junior/Intermediate/Senior Geography and Physical Education from the University of Toronto, Canada; and a B.A. from Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada, with a major in Physical Education and minor in Geography. His career experiences have taken him to Italy, Norway, Thailand, China, Lebanon, Guatemala, Sri Lanka, Spain, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Canada.

In the following feature, learn about the philosophy behind Fabio’s passion for education, and why he looks forward to this new chapter at WIST.

What drew you to pursue the world of education? And what drew you into international education specifically?

Having been an athlete and a university level coach, it seemed like an obvious career choice. I had every intention of taking my teaching career overseas one day, but my first international school experience came about purely by accident – totally unexpected. Hard to believe this was 31 years ago.

Please tell us about your education philosophy and your leadership style. What can your new community expect?

I am passionate about life. This leads to a positive outlook — yet I am also realistic and aim for a balanced approach. Ultimately, my basic philosophy is that beyond the necessity of a strong academic background, young adults need to feel respected, trusted, and secure in order to maximize their potential. It is this basic philosophy that gives me joy, commitment, and zest as an international educator and leader.

Congratulations on your new position at WIST! What excites you about being in this new role and school? What are your hopes?

I felt quite welcomed by the school community when I visited recently. Although WIST is a relatively young school, it was clear to me that students and staff shared a common belief that the school has the potential to become a quality school in the region.

It is quite exciting for me to start the 2022-23 school year alongside our new Head of Primary and new Head of Secondary. Together, with the other members of the Senior Leadership Team and staff, we will build on the successes experienced during these past 3 years.

What was your experience with ISS Administrative Search like?

I appreciated the effort that Pauline O’Brien put forth in meeting with me regarding the position at WIST. She kept me abreast of any new developments regarding my candidacy. I want to personally thank her for her openness and support during this process.

Our thanks to Fabio for sharing these reflections! We look forward to seeing his joyful commitment to education thrive with the WIST community this coming school year. You can connect with Fabio on Linkedin.
