Beth Pfannl

Senior Leadership Search Executive

Beth joined ISS in September 2016 with over 30 years of experience in the field of international education. She was most recently the long-standing head of the American Overseas School of Rome. Prior to AOSR, Beth was a school leader at the American School of Asunción for many years. She has served on numerous accreditation team visits to international schools as well as on the boards of several educational organizations, including ECIS (Educational Collaborative for International Schools), the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) International Schools Advisory Committee, and the Paraguayan American Cultural Center (CCPA). She has worked closely with the US Department of State’s Office of Overseas Schools throughout her career in international schools. A former trustee of The American University of Rome (AUR), Beth served as Board President of AAIE (Association for the Advancement of International Education) and RISA (Rome International Schools Association). She was inducted into AAIE’s Hall of Fame. Beth earned her master’s and doctorate degrees from the Sorbonne in Paris and her BA from McGill University in Montreal. She holds a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in School Administration from Rhode Island College. In addition to conducting school leadership searches, Beth speaks regularly around the world on the importance of cultivating diversity in global leadership roles. Fluent in Spanish, Italian, and French, and learning Dutch, Beth brings a very strong international perspective to ISS. She resides in Amsterdam.
