Ambatovy International School (AIS) opened its doors in September 2011 with the mission to provide a college preparatory international education designed to promote the academic potential, multi-cultural understanding, and well-rounded development of every student. Daily, students and staff work diligently to bring the school code to life: Act to support others; Insist on your best; Stretch your boundaries. AIS celebrated its first graduation in June 2014 and in 2016 earned full accreditation status through the Middle States Association.
The school supports dependents of Ambatovy, a multi-national nickel-mining project located in Toamasina, Madagascar. As of August 2016 thirty-five students are enrolled in multi-grade classes that range in size from six to eleven. Students currently represent the countries of Australia, Canada, France, Great Britain, Japan, Madagascar, South Africa, South Korea, Venezuela, the U.S. and Zimbabwe. We are truly an international community! Almost all students are “English Language Learners.”
The instructional program represents an international curriculum taught in English, complemented by French language and Malagasy culture. Multi-grade groupings serve the small population: Prekindergarten, Kindergarten (PK/K); Grades 1, 2 (Primary); Grades 3, 4, 5 (Intermediate); Grades 6, 7, 8 (Middle School); and Grades 9 and above (High School). In grades PK- 8 students receive grade level appropriate instruction in the core areas of Language Arts and Math and follow a multi-year rotational curriculum for Science and Social Studies. Students at the high school level are enrolled in accredited courses through K12 International Academy, an online learning program. Onsite teachers provide academic and pastoral guidance and support.
ISS provides the managerial support while teachers are employed by Ambatovy (officially Dynatec Madagascar Société Anonyme). The on-site school facilities include fully resourced classrooms and a sports/community hall. Teachers live in fully furnished accommodation either in the management housing village or the adjacent operation camp. Both sites have recreational facilities.
If a unique, exciting and energetic school and community appeal to your sense of professional and personal challenge and adventure we hope you will consider AIS! Friend us on Facebook (Ambatovy International School) or follow us on Twitter @AmbatovyIS.
