Facility Planning and Design

Providing complete evaluation, design, and equipment procurement services for international schools.

Facility Planning and Design
No matter where in the world you want an educational facility, you can take advantage of ISS's team of experts. The consultant team is comprised of educators, architects, interior designers, and certified planners. Major services include master planning, educational specifications, space utilization analyses, architectural design reviews, capital budget development, and complete equipment procurement, installation, and training. A school can employ ISS Facility Planning and Design as a comprehensive service, or use any of its parts.

Master Planning
Tailored to the specific needs of each client school, a master plan serves as a blueprint for physical development in exact response to the following factors:

• Community and educational setting within the host country
• Instructional programs and methodologies
• Enrollment, as the primary determinant of space needs
• Administration and staffing as defined by policy and structure
• Existing facilities; condition, utilization, and planned development
• Financing; capital costs, ability to afford debt

Educational Specifications Preparation
Prior to any design the actual spaces required to support a given instructional program must be defined. The ISS consultants document project justification and describe spaces in terms of size, capacity, function, utilities, unique features, and relationship to other spaces. Completed specifications direct the architect in the design of the school facility and can be used for public relations to gain community support.

Space Utilization Planning
Due to enrollment or program changes, existing space, a critical asset of any school, is often utilized above or below capacity. ISS consultants evaluate all aspects of existing facilities, such as condition, appropriate capacity, and present/planned use, to determine efficiency and quality.
For example, accurate enrollment projections, school policies, and space planning standards in recommendations for facility improvements or space re-assignments can return substantial cost savings.

Architectural Design Review
An ISS Facility Planning consultant team comprised of architects, educators, and planners reviews architectural designs. This multidisciplinary cadre ensures compliance with educational specifications and agreement with an American-type education program within the local site/setting.

Capital Budget Development
This planning service focuses on financial strategies for implementing planned school development. The budget planning process includes preparation of cost estimates, debt retirement analyses, project sequencing, and development phasing.

Equipment Procurement, Installation, and Training
Access to an extensive and current database of furnishings and equipment that includes specifications relating to such items as function, cost, size, and availability streamlines the procurement process. ISS utilizes its worldwide network of manufacturers and suppliers to obtain materials that meet every curricular, administrative, or maintenance need. To ensure proper operation, ISS supervises the installation of high-tech equipment, the careful, reliable assembly and placement of furniture and equipment, and the thorough training of operational and maintenance personnel.
