Semester of Service at Cayman International School

In the past four months National Honor Society students at Cayman International School have created strong community partnerships with several key service organizations island-wide centered on pillars of Education, Health, and Environment.

Each service project strikes a cord in different NHS members, motivating them to take full initiative in order to have far reaching impacts. As a team National Honor Society members have contributed hundreds of service hours in an effort to improve their community and motivate others to extend a helping hand. Below are just a few examples of leadership, character and service.

Students continued the on-school recycling program and participated in four beach clean-ups, partnering with Plastic Free Cayman and Red Sail Sports. They worked with Impact 345 to pack and deliver gift bags to children receiving heart surgeries. Hundreds of canned goods and donations were collected for the Cayman Crisis Center; students also raised money for the Cayman Cancer Society by hosting a carwash fundraiser. They teamed up with LIFE.org to collect thousands of books for local libraries. Students also jump-started a tutoring program with the 5th grade students at Georgetown Primary School.

National Honor Society members packed holiday bags for cancer patients as their final 2017 initiative. Students collected and sorted thousands of pounds of trash in an effort to clean the beaches and spread awareness regarding the effects of single use plastics on the ecosystem.Students also provided time, games and gifts for children from Mongolia, Haiti, Uganda and Honduras who came to Health City, while also raising money for cancer patients at a local car wash. They also donated thousands of books to Life.org to improve literacy island-wide, as well as tutoring and mentoring students from Georgetown Primary School.
